Luxury Hotel
Whether by pre-arranged helicopter from Nice or private car, visitors arrive to the fairy tale façade of Hotel Hermitage with its aristocratic white coloring, rod iron balconies and dramatic columned entrance. A pristine lobby drenched in creamy white and Tiffany blue undertones is lined in gleaming marble floors illuminated by crystal chandeliers strewn from the two-story ceiling. More intimate than its Hotel de Paris sibling and without the constant thoroughfare an adjacent casino brings, a more gentile atmosphere prevails in the this luxury palace home to recently renovated Le Vistamar penned by designer Pierre Yves Rochon and offering an all-day seafood eatery crowned in a Michelin star. Additionally, Crystal Bar and its terrace offer a popular gathering point for local business types and visiting professionals. Those looking for the pool or beach are often surprised on their first visit to discover it's not actually part of the hotel, as with Hotel de Paris, but at the nearby Monte-Carlo Beach Club or Themese Marins depending on your month of visit.
The Room
Entry-level superior rooms face either the interior garden, courtyard or inland direction with a modern Belle Époque style that equates to ornate chairs, delicate wall covers and wall of mirrored closet built for multi-week stays. Deluxe rooms come with upgraded views of the sea and port while terrace rooms offer more attractive toile wall coverings and rounded terraces more for seated enjoyment than lavish lounging. Overall, the décor feel cohesive at times with a variance of styles and colors that disappoint. Larger suites promise the “spirit of Marie-Antoinette in her Petit Trianon Chateau,” but with dizzying décor that more befits Las Vegas than the former-home of a French queen.
